The rights to assembly in Democratic Kampuchea compare to the rights to assembly in Kingdom of Cambodia today.

Rights to assembly is the rights that individual would be able to form in group to create party, organisation, or association. These rights most likely practiced in democratic system to form pluralism and multi-party system. However, in Cambodia during the Democratic Kampuchea I found nothing relates to the rights to assembly to participate in politics. Anyway, in Kingdom of Cambodia today is also being practiced democracy. I choose this topic, “The rights to assembly in Democratic Kampuchea compare to the rights to assembly in Kingdom of Cambodia today”, as my study because it leads me to have better understanding about the rights of people in politics in that period and guide me to learn more about politics in present time. And I want to know that how the rights to assembly practiced in that regime difference to the rights practice in Kingdom of Cambodia today or not. What make them difference? Furthermore, I would like to understand more about human rights which exists in book that compiled by Professor Stan and what we have discussed in class. These reasons force and direct me to research this topic because it is very significant to my study in this term, Human Rights and World Politics.

hi savouen,
I think it a good topic since you raise a very good point to talk about right in the Democratic Kampuchea. It was actually no right at all at that time for the individual but it was the absolute right of the Angka. However it is not all that do not have right. They did but the minor group of the people who led the country at that time. They plenty of right to put pressure on the people under their ruling.
Any way, if we compare to the right in the present time it is far different since from nothing to have as today.
Well I hope to read good and concide paper to learn more about the essense of your explanation.

Hi, Savoeurn

I have some small idea for this topic.

If we gland at the title of this regime we see that it is the best name of it. but in reality it is not like that. The "Democratic Kampuchea" is the best title among all the regimes in Cambodia from 1953 to now. What is the freedom of assembly in the regime?
According to the Right to assembly in the regime states in the constitution of Democratic Kampuchea In chapter 9, article 12, states that every citizen of Kampuchea enjoys full rights to a constantly improving material, spiritual and cultural life. But in the constitution of Kingdom of Cambodia, the chapter iii, article 41 states that Khmer citizens shall have freedom of expression, press, publication and assembly. etc. There is quite different between them. Before we talk about the freedom of human in the two regime, we should look at the political system of the two regimes. One is communist and another, Constitutional Monarchy. In theory of the Democracy Kampuchea, is mainly equal.
Really, no freedom of speech or expression or assembly exist. In the In the same chapter 9, article 12 also states that there is absolutely no unemploy-ment in Democratic Kampuchea. It is very good statement but job and benefit is quite different. In the universal human rights, people work 8 hours a day, but Democratic Kampuchea regime forced people work more than 10 hours a day and no one can escape and not enough food to eat. So, any have time to assemble.
In the other hand, in Democratic Kampuchea, living in collective , working in collective, eating in collective, sleeping in collective, marrying in many couples and complaint was not allowed. So, the individual right was confiscated from human.
If we talk about the freedom of assembly in the 2nd Kingdom of Cambodia, we see that the opposition party was formed to compete with the ruling party, and they gather to talk to criticize the government policy. In the National Assembly the member of National Assembly can speak can complain the government officers activity, but that activity in politic that guaranteed by the law now, did exist in Democratic Kampuchea regime.
. Remember that political system of Democratic Kampuchea was copied from China during Cultural Revolution in the Mao era( 1947- 1978).

I believe I saw a more recent post from you declaring a change of some elements of the topic, which is why I won't comment on this earlier post.
